B.J. JANSEN--Has launched a new business named Pitch Artist Services and brings over a decade of experience as a baritone saxophonist, bandleader, producer, composer, arranger, independent record label owner and his knowledge of marketing through new technology to the venture.
BLACK HOUSE IMPROVISORS' COLLECTIVE--is in its fifth session and will be going into the studio to record their 2nd CD on August 15th. The ensemble also features ARC members: CHRIS BURNETT, STAN KESSLER and MATT OTTO.

DONALD HARRISON, JR.--wears many hats on David Simon's new HBO series Treme. Harrison was contacted early on before production began and asked to be a consultant. He helped in developing characters based on his life in modern jazz music and New Orleans culture. The show developed 2 characters based on Harrison being a jazz musician with a father that is a Big Chief in the culture of New Orleans. The father, Altert Lambreaux is played by Clark Peters. The son, Delmond Lambreaux is played by Rob Brown. Harrison gets to interact with both characters in episodes 1, 6, and 10. His interaction takes place as a musician playing his own compositions, as an actor delivering lines in scenes with them, or as a Big Chief leading his Congo Nation Mardi Gras Indian group. GEORGE KAHN--The California Jazz Foundation will present The Four Freshmen and The George Kahn Trio at the Catalina Jazz Club, 6725 West Sunset Blvd. in Hollywood on August 8th at 5:15 P.M. The Grammy-nominated Four Freshmen have dazzled millions of fans for six decades. They recently received the coveted Satchmo Award from the Sarasota Jazz Society. The California Jazz Foundation is a nonprofit charitable organization formed to provide aid and assistance to California jazz musicians in crisis. We do so through a team of caring, knowledgeable professionals in collaboration with community partners. The George Kahn Trio is a popular favorite at Catalina's. Kahn recently released his seventh CD, Secrets from The Jazz Ghetto, a two-disc compilation featuring original material and stellar arrangements of classic standards. Kahn was the winner of the 2008 Chuck Niles Bebop Award at the Temecula Valley Jazz Festival.

JOHN BLAKE, JR.--Is serving on the faculty of the 29th Annual Jazz in July Summer Music Programs at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst from July 19-23.
KANSAS CITY JAZZ ORCHESTRA--Friday, September 10, 2010-- 7:30 p.m. in concert at the Performing Arts Center, KCKCC. The Orchestra will kick-off the season with a spicy-hot evening of Latin influenced jazz. The music of artists such as Tito Puente, Arturo Sandoval, Mongo Santa Maria, Carlos Santana, Paquito D'Rivera and Claudio Roditi will be featured. The Orchestra will be joined by Miquel DeLeon, a Latin percussionist and vocalist.

On Fridays and Sat Brunches, he's playing solo piano and singing...from his collection of over 100 year old New Orleans songs, Tom Waits, Dr John, Randy Newman songs and blues, at Scarlet O'Hara's on Decatur St, next to the firehouse in the French Quarter. July jazz gigs on alto and flute, with his Be and Post Bop quartet of Chuck Chaplin-piano, Peter Harris-bass. Charlie Kohlmeyer-drums coming up at Dos Jefes on July 15 (uptown on Tchoupitoulis St) and on July 22 at Snug Harbor on Frenchman St in the Marigny in New Orleans.
MARK TAYLOR--Is performing with The WisQtet is at The Stone on July 25th at 10pm. This is a very open and creative group of improvisers just barely corralled by legendary drummer/percussionist Warren Smith. The very next night, July 26th, Taylor's own group--Secret Identity--will be at The Local 269 on E. Houston St. at 9pm. Secret Identity is a new project that builds on the work they've done in the Quartet and adds the amazing guitarist Brandon Ross to the mix.

STAN KESSLER--has formed a new duo ensemble called Passport" and is performing regularly at a new venue in the Kansas City metro. The ensemble features Kessler with acclaimed guitarist Beau Bledsoe (A co-founder of the independent record label Tzigane, which is home to four of Beau's own recorded projects and many other fine artists.). Through his many diverse projects and ensembles, Beau has had the great fortune of performing in almost every state in the U.S. as well as touring to Russia, Mexico, Argentina, Spain, Germany, France and Switzerland. His music is regularly programmed on radio1 BBC, Segovia a Yupanki" Radio Nacional Argentina, and All Songs Considered" on NPR.
