ARC for the week of February 1, 2010: Music industry news and label headlines from the Artists Recording Collective (ARC).

SUMI TONOOKA/ERICA LINDSAY - ARC is pleased to announce that Initiation, the dynamic new Artists Recording Collective CD by pianist Sumi Tonooka (pronounced To-NO-ka) and tenor saxophonist Erica Lindsay, entered the JazzWeek Charts at #39 and continues to garner both, significant terrestrial radio airplay and positive review commentary from jazz critics and music fans alike.

JOHN BLAKE, JR. - ARC is pleased to announce that “Motherless Child" the new CD release by master violinist, educator, composer and arranger, John Blake, Jr. is officially set to be released on March 1, 2010. The new album features innovative arrangements of Negro Spirituals performed by his stellar group with the Howard University Choir.

GEORGE KAHN - ARC is please to announce that ARC member, George Kahn, had a song “Wes' Coast" (from his latest CD, “Cover Up! “) appear in this week's episode of the new Ray Romano show “Men Of A Certain Age" on TNT - hope you can check it out!

DONALD HARRISON, JR. - ARC is pleased to announce that master saxophonist, composer, singer and producer, Donald Harrison, Jr. (Art Blakey's Jazz Messengers, Eddie Palmieri, among others) recently joined ARC and will be releasing a project on the ARC label.

DANNY EMBREY - ARC is pleased to announce that master guitarist, composer, educator and producer, Danny Embrey (Sergio Medes, Sons of Brasil, among others) has joined ARC.

LEE SHAW TRIO - ARC is pleased to announce that a photograph of master pianist, bandleader and educator, Dr. Lee Shaw showing her hands performing on the piano keyboard is also the subject of a quilt - yes, actually quilt art! “Lee Shaw Muscle Memory" 2009 15in x 20in (38cm x 51cm) by artist, Kate Themel is based on the concept of learned movements and patterns that become “hardwired" in our brains. Inspired by a photo of jazz pianist Lee Shaw's hands taken by photographer Joe Putrock.

LOREN PICKFORD - ARC is pleased to announce that Grammy nominated master woodwind instrumentalist, Loren Pickford has officially relocated from Kansas City back to his adopted home of New Orleans where he will now be based and continue to manage a prolific performance schedule.

WILL MATTHEWS - ARC is pleased to announce that Count Basie Orchestra guitarist, Will Matthews has been elected president of the Historic Mutual Musicians Foundation in Kansas City.

CHRIS BURNETT - ARC is pleased to announce that ARC co-founder and alto saxophonist, Chris Burnett has been elected to the at-large board of directors of the Historic Mutual Musicians Foundation in Kansas City.

BLACK HOUSE IMPROVISORS' COLLECTIVE - ARC is pleased to announce that the innovative new music workshop and composer residency group, Black House Improvisors' Collective has joined our membership.
