"All That Jazz", a history and appreciation class sponsored by Del-Tech, Wilm, DE

"All That Jazz",a history and appreciation class starts on February 6th, from 7-8:30pm at Del-Tech's Wilmington campus. This eight week class traces the evolution of jazz fromm its roots---spirituals, blues and ragtime up through the Bebop era will be explored. The instructor is Cynthia Sala Tyson, a jazz composer/vocalist, who is current on the English faculty at DelTech.

Tyson studied composition and arranging with legendary jazz artist, Mary Lou Williams at Duke University and later went on to record, perform and collaborate with the pianist until her death in 1981. She has performed on four continents, served as musical director at the Jazz Academy in Nairobi, Kenya until 1998, and has worked as musical director, arranger, and song-writer on the movie, Ditchdigger's Daughters, produced by MTM.

“All That Jazz" includes great jazz videos and sound recordings, live performance and the thoroughly entertaining repartee by Tyson, who will share many experiences. For example, she begged Mary Lou to hire her as a house-keeper just so she could memorize John Coltrane's original arrangements that Mary Lou brought from her Hamilton Terrace apartment in New York City.
