JUMPIN' WITH AL CASEY

In celebration of Al Casey's 85th Birthday, BORDER'S - Kips Bay Books & Music Cafe,576 Second Avenue will host “Jumpin' With Al Casey and Friends", Friday, September 15th,2000, 7:30-9:30pm, FREE-limited seating in Music Cafe.

Al Casey is best remembered as stride pianist Fat's Waller's rhythm guitarist (1934-1942), Esquire Gold Award Winner (1944 & 1945) with Louis Armstrong, Art Tatum, Lionel Hampton, Coleman Hawkins and Jack Teagarden and recording dates with Billie Holiday, Teddy Wilson, Jay McShann, Roy Eldridge and Al Grey.

During 1957-1961 he played R&B electric guitar with King Curtis and since 1981 he is a feature with Al Vollmer's HARLEM BLUES & JAZZ BAND touring Europe every year with his unique single note blues guitar sound.

Available recordings include his own BUCK JUMPIN' Fantasy DJCCD6752 that include his originals “Buck Jumpin'", “Casey's Blues" and “Gut Soul" (ASCAP).

On the CHRONOLOGICAL ROY ELDRIDGE 1945-1947 his “Buck Still Jumps" is the last tune.

On HOT NIGHTS, a Circle CD recorded in 1988, trombonist Al Grey and clarinetist Sammy Rimington join Mr. Casey for some wonderful swing at George and Nina Buck's Palm Court Restaurant in New Orleans.

The most recent release A HANDFUL OF KEYS Buddha CD (1999) includes Fat's Waller favorites with Al Casey's famous guitar solos.
