2001 - The Year of Nnenna Freelon
1) NNENNA FREELON, received 2 GRAMMY nominations. One for Best Jazz Vocal Album: Soulcall and one for Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying A Vocalist(s): Button Up Your Overcoat" which Nnenna also arranged.
2) In other Grammy news, it was announced that Nneena Freelon and Take 6 will be performing STRAIGHTEN UP AND FLY RIGHT" during the telecast Wed. Feb. 21st!! This song will be the next track serviced to radio.
3) And speaking of prestigious performances, Nnenna has also been invited to appear at the 2001 PRESIDENTIAL INAUGURAL at Shakespeare Folger Theater in Washington, D.C. at 7:30 PM on January 20, performing for the National Coalition for Technology in Education and Training.
4) And this invite stems from Nnenna having just received the California Partners in Education Award for Outstanding Service. Nnenna is also the NATIONAL SPOKESPERSON FOR PARTNERS IN EDUCATIONand devotes much of her time to the needs of children throughout the country. As evidence to her continued support of Partners in Education, she wrote the song One Child At A Time" which appears on Soulcall.
5)So with all of this, could Nnenna possibly find time for anything else? Yes, of course. Nnenna, the actress, is turning up everywhere; from a pivotal role -- playing herself! -- in the current hit film WHAT WOMEN WANT," starring MEL GIBSON and HELEN HUNT, to a featured spot in the new CHRYSLER SEBRING commercial on TV. She will also be featured in the movie THE VISIT" starring Billy D. Williams and Phylicia Rashad opening in February.
