Yoshi Matsubara

Guitarist and composer, Yoshi Matsubara was born in 1985 Shizuoka Japan. He picked up the Violin at age of 3 and later switched to the guitar at age of 14. He decided to pursue his career as a jazz guitarist after moving to the United States in 2004 where he began his bachelor’s degree at the University of North Texas. While in UNT, he performed with musicians such as Ambrose Akinmusire, Mario Cruz, Jason Thomas, Brad Leali and Taylor Eigsti. He has been on stage at many different jazz clubs and festivals across the U.S. such as the North Texas Jazz Festival, the Denton Arts and Jazz Festival, the Addison Jazz Festival, the Deep Ellm Arts Festival, and the W.C. Handy Music Festival. While actively working as one of the premier jazz guitarists in Dallas Fort Worth Metroplex, Yoshi led his own group of some of the finest musicians from the area: Brian Girely, Roberto Verastegui, Ryan Hagler, and Steve Pruitt. He recorded his first album “Victory Dance” with this group in May 2010. The recording was highly praised among musicians in DFW area and Tokyo. Yoshi moved back to Japan in September 2010 where his excellent reputation in the Tokyo jazz scene continues to grow.
