The Rides: Can't Get Enough

Read "Can't Get Enough" reviewed by Doug Collette

Yet even with this ostensible surfeit of talent, the triumvirate-like the so-named collaboration of Dr. John, John Hammond Jr. and Michael Bloomfield-ends up undermining their intent by alternately trying too hard or second-guessing themselves. ...

Pianist Mika Pohjola, bassist Dan Loomis and drummer Kyle Struve played 2005-09 on a weekly basis in Pohjola's studio on East 14th Street in Manhattan. The first four tracks, consisted of Con Alma by Dizzy Gillespie, Conception by George Shearing, In Your Own Sweet Way by ...

Brad Mehldau Rides Again

Brad Mehldau Rides Again

Source: Inverted Garden by Eric Benson

When Brad Mehldau released Largo in 2002, I remember thinking it was high-time the era's greatest jazz pianist ventured beyond his comfy acoustic trio. Since signing a deal with the now-defunct Warner Jazz at the tender age of 24, Mehldau had released six piano trio records with the same personnel (Larry Grenadier on bass, Jorge Rossy on drums) and one rambling and occasionally brilliant solo date, Elegaic Cycles. Largo didn't sound like anything Mehldau had done before—it was poppy, heavily ...

POST-TRIAL UPDATE  FROM THE STUDENTS:  “Today's hearing was just rescheduled for Jan 6 due to pro hac vice issues.  So basically, the hearing was rescheduled because Professor Charles Nesson is not admitted to argue in a RI court, further underscoring the injustice caused by the powerful Goliath infrastructure behind the RIAA against the small David defendants."“Also, the Judge denied a motion they made to prohibit any activity on Joel's parent's computer until Jan 6.  After all, they haven't ...
