Indie DIY Advice: Write ‘Thank You’ Notes

Source: HypeBot

While adding extra items to merchandise orders can be expensive for an artist or record label, 'Thank You' notes can be a friendly and cost effective way to connect with fans while helping to increase social media exposure. Guest Post by James Shotwell on Haulixdaily.com I’ve been running my own record label for the better part of three years at this point, and along the way I’ve learned countless lessons I wish I had known prior to launch. That’s just the way life works ...

Ingrooves Responds: Ours is Less Lopsided, Thank You...

Source: Digital Music News

Just three providers account for 94.4 percent of global indie revenues, according to AIM. But INgrooves says its percentages are far less lopsided. Specifically, the top three—iTunes, Spotify, and Amazon—account for 74.5 percent of total digital revenues at the San Francisco-based INgrooves, leaving a healthier 25.5 percent for the others. “We think it's important to clarify the difference in the AIM report and our own numbers regarding indie digital revenues," INgrooves CEO Robb McDaniels told Digital Music News. “Independent labels that ...

One Track Mind: The Jazz Crusaders, "Thank You Fallettinme Be Mice Elf Again" (1970)

Source: Something Else!

By Pico Today is a day for giving thanks for something or another, and everyone knows what Sly Stone is grateful for. And believe me, I was intent on making this One Track Mind about a 1969 hit for the Family Stone that pretty much set the template for '70's funk, but then I got to thinking about another nifty cover that came out less then a year later. We've talked about the great, soul-jazz combo from Houston, TX called ...

Thank You for Paul Desmond

Thank You for Paul Desmond

Source: Rifftides by Doug Ramsey

For the occasion in 1976, Devra Hall cooked a turkey dinner for Desmond and her parents, Jim and Jane. She took the photograph that afternoon. Here's the story of the end of that part of the day, told by Devra in Take Five: The Public and Private Lives of Paul ...

Over at our sister blog Music Think Tank, there are two new posts up.  One is from Ariel Hyatt of Ariel Publicity, on why Madina Lake's bassist Matthew Leone is s hero. The other, from Brian Hazard of Color Theory, is a fascinating case study on passive promotion and Jango.

From The Essay: "I doubt I made all that money back in sales, but dozens of Jango listeners bought albums, friended me on Facebook, and followed me on Twitter. 138 of ...
