Sinsuke Fujieda
Sinsuke Fujieda is a Japanese artist, composer, saxophonist, and flutist, and the founder of the independent label SoFa Records.
Rather than treating performance, composition, recording, production, release, and label management as separate disciplines, Fujieda integrates them into a single artistic practice.
His principal creative platform is SINSUKE FUJIEDA GROUP, for which he develops the overall concept, composes the music, and shapes its artistic and musical direction. At the same time, he places strong emphasis on improvisation, interaction, and the possibility for the music to change through the presence of the musicians themselves.
This combination of Fujieda’s strong artistic direction and the spontaneity of a living ensemble is central to his work.
In 2012, following his experience of the Great East Japan Earthquake, Fujieda founded SoFa Records. Through the label, he has built an independent creative system encompassing music production, releases, distribution, and live projects while maintaining artistic ownership of his work.
His practice extends beyond performance alone. For Fujieda, creating the music itself and determining how that music takes form as a work — how it is recorded, produced, presented, released, and brought into the world — are part of the same creative process.
In 2025, SINSUKE FUJIEDA GROUP’s album FUKUSHIMA, released on vinyl by France’s Superfly Records, received significant international recognition. The album reached No. 1 on the Juno Records Jazz Chart and No. 1 on Discogs’ Best-Selling New Releases Chart.
The digital release charted in 62 countries and regions worldwide, including No. 1 in Thailand; No. 2 in Italy, France, Lebanon, South Africa, and Finland; No. 3 in Sweden, Spain, Chile, Belgium, and Taiwan; No. 4 in the United Kingdom; and No. 7 in the United States.
The same year, SINSUKE FUJIEDA GROUP performed at FUJI ROCK FESTIVAL on THE PALACE OF WONDER stage.
Following the international response to FUKUSHIMA, the album reached its third pressing in 2026, bringing cumulative vinyl pressings to 9,000 copies.
In October 2026, Fujieda’s own label SoFa Records will release the double LP INFORMEL.
The work reimagines a live performance recorded in Tokyo in 2020 from the perspective of six years later, transforming material from the group’s musical origins into a new work in the present.
Through the process of creating INFORMEL, Fujieda came to recognize an underlying principle in his own practice: to search within what is still without fixed form for a form he can believe in, and to take responsibility for that form through to completion.
For Fujieda, creation is not simply the realization of a predetermined final image.

Sinsuki Fujieda Group: Fukushima
by Don Phipps
Sinsuke Fujieda's straightforward jazz album Fukushima offers up some enjoyable and tantalizing moments but ultimately suffers from repetitive arrangements and the limited range of his side musicians. Jazz is a music that rewards experimentation and adventure, but on Fujieda's nine compositions, he and his band stick with a been there, done that" approach that by the album's end seems threadbare. Fujieda plays tenor and soprano saxophones, flute and clarinet. His explorations on the four instruments reveal a professional ...
