Sérgio Tavares

Sérgio Tavares is a musician from Porto. Holds a degree in jazz double bass and a master's degree in Music Education (developing and explore improvisation whith ensembles) from ESMAE (Porto, Portugal). He also participated in several workshops and masterclasses with jazz musicians such as Ron Carter, Eddie Gomez, Drew Gress, Hein van de Geyn, Bojan Z, Zeena Parkins, Evan Parker, among many others. He has developed several improvised music / jazz projects, multidisciplinary collaborations with artists from diverse areas such as video, theatre and poetry. Develops pedagogical activity as a teacher of double bass and improvisation. He is involved in different projects of improvised music, jazz and composition of soundtracks for movies, dance, among others. He is currently working in projects such as COTOVELO, PHANTOM TRIO, ARS Trio; DOUBLE.DUO; among others.

A new trio is born and its inaugural document, Vestiges, is a smorgasbord of free improvisation from noisy shred to minimal electronics. Made up of the Portuguese bassist Sérgio Tavares and guitarist Nuno Trocado and UK-resident saxophonist Tom Ward, the three deliver nine improvised pieces as they investigate differing approaches to instant composing.
