Russ Nagy

Russell Nagy is a graduate of the University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music, B.M. with minors in Music Theory and Jazz Studies. Masters of Composition from The Ohio State Univdersity - as well as the Cleveland Institute of Electronics, Broadcast Engineering Diploma. Further education includes the La Domaine School of Orchestral Training, Hancock, ME and The Don Sebesky Film Scoring Workshop, NYC.

Russell is currently a professor at the Capital University Conservatory of Music and Choir Director at Worthington Presbyterian Church. He is an avid Jazz pianist and devoted cross-country cyclist.

A published composer of sacred and secular music his compositions range from choral octavos to film scores to full-length musicals. In 2005, Russ's published works reached total sales of over one million. A champion of music for children, Russ has composed hundreds of compositions from Bible verse memory songs to music for the elementary classroom as well as electronic scores for LeapPad® scholastic products. He is an Apple Certified Professional on Logic Pro.

As a professional audio engineer, Russ has both recorded and produced albums for such artists as classical pianist Earl Wild, Jazz greats Stéphane Grappelli and Phil Woods and even the OSU marching band. As a technologist, Russ was involved with the IMA Parallax Project providing significant development of the DVD (MPEG-2) standard. He is a MIDI and Electronic Music author (MIDI for the Church Musician, “The Choir Builder Book,” Brookfield Press, 1997) and lecturer at seminars and conferences, as well as 6 years experience as Music & MIDI editor for the Multimedia CD ROM, Nautilus.

Committed to music education, he recently premiered at the Midwest Clinic, Cynosure, for Strings and Narrator that advocates arts education in the schools and composed the “Sticky Hooks” series of memory songs under a grant from the Hilliard Education Foundation.

An avid Jazz pianist and devoted cross-country cyclist, Russ teaches at Capital University Conservatory.
