Paulo Perfeito

Paulo Perfeito , trombonist , composer and educator was born in Porto, Portugal in 1974 . His musical studies began in a local marching band, and proceeded in the Conservatorio de Musica in Porto and later in the Escola de Jazz do Porto. After attending the Jamey Aebersold Summer Jazz Workshop in 1996 , Paulo was encouraged to continue his studies in Jazz at the Berklee College of Music where in 2001 he obtained the degree of Bachelor of Music . In 2007 Paulo obtained the degree of Master of Music at the New England Conservatory and he is currently pursuing a Doctor of Musical Arts at the prestigious Eastman School of Music.

Awards

Among the several awards he received a DownBeat Student Music Award in 2013, Marian McPartland Scholarship, Fulbright Scholarship , Herb Pomeroy Award for Outstanding Jazz Composer and Arranger , Bolsa Jovens Criadores from the Centro Nacional de Cultura in ’00 e ‘01.

Credentials/Background

Paulo collaborated with several institutions including the Orquestra de Jazz de Matosinhos , European Movement Jazz Orchestra , ESMAE , Casa da Musica, Academia de Musica de Espinho and Escola de Artes de Sines. Paulo leads the following prjects: Nu Jazz Orchestra , 6teto Paulo Perfeito and Upstate Connection Unit .
