The Pulse
Half the group hailing from Calgary, the other half from Edmonton, all six members met through various encounters in the Canadian music scene. After realizing their shared interest and potential in the future of jazz and fusion, they decided to form an official musical collective and began to compile material for a full length release. After only a few live appearances 'The Pulse' became known for their explosive live show: tight, high energy original modern jazz music balanced with edgy groove based tunes and unique arrangements of other contemporary artists.
Recorded in the summer of 2009, before most of the band took off to study music in various different cities, 'The Pulse' debut album showcases the individual talents of each player along with their collective strengths as a group. The album was entirely produced, funded and recorded by the group at 'Mind For Music Studios' and 'Outset Studios' in Edmonton, with the band later enlisted the help of Stew Kirkwood at 'Sound Extractor Studios' to complete the mixing/mastering process. This album, the first for the group so far, captures a young band at a creative high point; their energy is fueled by the thrill of a new original project coupled with the excitement of hearing newly written and arranged tunes come to life on tape. All of the individual playing and writing styles stand out on the recordings, but there is also a conclusive wholeness to the record, thanks to a healthy group dynamic and a willingness to experiment.
