Will Carpenter

Will Carpenter's debut release entitled Divine Intervention is a collaboration of inspirational and jazz music. He decided on this title because of the inspiration and ideas that the Lord bestowed upon him in the making of this project. The compositions on this CD are created with a combination of traditional and piccolo bass guitars. Will often uses these instruments to construct a musical blend that is delightful to the ear.

Will began playing the bass guitar in the sixth grade and has added additional instruments along the way to culminate the making of this project. He began to manage his own band in the 9th grade and has been a bandleader ever since. His "Rendezvous Band" played private events, restaurants and clubs in the Houston area for 15 years. He employed many musicians from various genres to form a sound that satisfied a multitude of listeners.

Will also ventured into major concert promotions within the southwest region. This enabled him to explore other artists and to gain a better understanding of how business is conducted both on and off the road. He was also able to meet and coordinated the stage riders for Kenny G, Bob James, Kirk Whalum and Rodney Franklin. The wealth of experience acquired by being around artists of this calibur is likely to surface when you get to see Will perform live in concert.

Hal Blaine on Karen Carpenter

Hal Blaine on Karen Carpenter

Source: JazzWax by Marc Myers

Maybe it's because I came of age in the early '70s. Or because my parents had a “burnt orange" car. Or that I had an apple-green Schwinn Stingray. Or that our home was painted redwood. Whatever the reason, the Carpenters always take me back to a time when everything was changing, and not always for the better. But through it all—the striped bellbottoms, the tough kids in the suburbs and the gloomy news—Karen Carpenter's voice made everything sound just right. ...

Vibrant Historical Reconstruction with Brian Carpenter's "Hothouse Stomp"

Vibrant Historical Reconstruction with Brian Carpenter's "Hothouse Stomp"

Source: Gapplegate Music Review by Grego Edwards

Early jazz was not a matter of three or four bands with monster soloists playing in a vacuum. Not every band had the over- powering playing of Armstrong, Oliver or Keppard gracing the front line. And jazz as it flowered was not merely a showcase for soloists. There was the hot two-beat swing, the arrangements, the fact that this was music for people to dig live, not some living museum of early style. That perhaps is obvious, but histories of ...

Cameron Carpenter brings his organist showmanship to L.A.'s First Congregational Church on Sunday

The player with a flair for dramatic performances and glitzy outfits gives a prelude to his Disney Hall debut next season. The pipe organ's massive physical dimensions and its potential for earthshaking sonorities make it an instrument like no other. But those who play its multiple keyboards, pump its many pedals and pull its multifarious stops are another matter. Popularly regarded as repressed or freakish (think Simon ...

Gig Advice from Dave Carpenter

Gig Advice from Dave Carpenter

Source: Goings on @ Urban Nerds

I was fortunate enough to study with the great bassist Dave Carpenter (Allan Holdsworth, Buddy Rich, Woody Herman, Boz Skaggs, Peter Erskine) for about a year-and-a-half while I was attending CalArts and I learned a lot from him about music and professionalism. I remember that he had some great, simple advice about the requirements for taking a gig.Dave's simple criteria is as follows: Who's it with? You don't want to turn down a gig to play with a ...
