Manu

MANU ENGLISH BIO Manu (aka Emmanuelle Monet) was the singer of the french cult rock band Dolly, between 1995 and 2005 (about 400 000 albums sold). The band stopped in 2005 with the death of its bass player Micka in 2005. In 2008, she released her first solo-album "Rendez-vous" on her own record company Tekini Records, followed by a live CDVD in 2010 and a second intimist album "La dernière étoile" in 2013. In 2014, Manu released "Tenki Ame - The Japanese EP", an 8-tracks mini-album only in japanese language. At the end of 2015, Manu is back with a new album, "La vérité". A pure power pop album with grunge and heavy rock influences (Pixies, Undertones, Sonic Youth). She is now playing in France with a new powerful band. Manu also collaborated in her carreer with different french or international artists like Apocalyptica, Kelly Jones (Stereophonics), Mass Hysteria or the japanese 'Silent Hill" composer Akira Yamaoka.

By Mark Saleski Ever stumble into one of those snotty Internet arguments tugging back & forth about the capabilities of musicians? Specifically, the old “Is it possible for player X (an expert in genre A) to cross over to the land of genre B?" “Well, of course he can." “He's a master!" “No he can't." “This music has nothing to do with that music." “You're an idiot." “Besides, that music is just plain lame." “Did I mention that you're an ...

Manu Dibango "Africadelic"

Manu Dibango "Africadelic"

Source: Sound Insights by Doug Payne

It's hard to believe there is a musician anywhere on this earth that could mix great jazz chops with a soulful outlook and a worldly attitude and still make it so fun and funky that it doesn't matter what allegiance you address. This stuff rocks. And, amazingly, it's just as timely now as it was back then. The following tunes come from Manu Dibango's Africadelic album, the tremendous 1973 French-only follow-up of sorts to the worldwide smash that was “Soul ...

Manu Katche - Third Round (2010)

By PicoWorld class drummer Manu Katché continues to pursue a second musical career as a bandleader with his third ECM release (and fourth overall) on Third Round. His second ECM Playground was warmly greeted here when it first appeared three years ago, and his label debut was quite good, too, so we were eager to see if Katché could make it three for three. Third Round isn't an abrupt departure from the spacious, subtle European jazz ...

Tuesday Morning Listen: Manu Katche, Third Round

Tuesday Morning Listen: Manu Katche, Third Round

Source: Inverted Garden by Eric Benson

In Coltrane: The Story of a Sound, Times critic Ben Ratliff writes, “the sound of so many jazz gigs I've heard in the past fifteen years...is usually the sound of albums like Coltrane's Sound or Coltrane Plays the Blues, the quartet just before or in the first stages of a modal-jazz style, just tightening, still before A Love Supreme and that later music that is so personal that to borrow from it would be obvious." I hadn't heard either album ...
