Louis Martinez
A guitarist and composer with rare sensitivity, Louis Martinez expresses himself through his instrument and touches the listener with his musical honesty. He began playing the guitar at a very young age (classical guitar at the Conservatory and self-taught jazz). This passion has never left him. Holder of a CA Jazz Hors Classe, he taught and led harmony and improvisation workshops at the Sète Conservatory for 33 years. He regularly leads workshops and masterclasses in France and abroad: Belgium, Corsica, Mexico, and notably in partnership with guitarist Sylvain Luc. He is the author of several books published by Henry Lemoine (Guitar Improvisation in 4 volumes, arrangements of 12 tracks from Claude Nougaro's repertoire in the Guitare solo collection). A room at the new Sète Conservatory bears his name. He is also the founder and artistic director of the Jazz à Sète festival. He has recorded around twenty albums in formats ranging from duo to big band. For several years, he has devoted himself to his projects as a leader (Influences, Reflets duo or quartet) and these are essentially creations that reveal his diverse musical tastes, while still allowing room for the compositions of the musicians with whom he collaborates. He has performed and sometimes recorded with many artists such as Jeanne Lee, Kirk Lightsay, Sylvain Luc, Stéphane Belmondo, Jean-Louis Rassinfosse, Michel Perez, Mino Cinélu, Sal La Rocca, and others.
