Julie OConnell

Julie knew from a young age that music was the path she was meant to take. She began singing and dancing in competitions in her hometown of St. Louis, Missouri. From the age of six, she was performing solos and duets with her sisters and friends. Julie's music teachers in school always new that she had a special gift, and she received solo after solo in school plays and recitals. She began to study voice privately at the age of 12, and went on to study with some of the best voice teachers in the St. Louis area. In high school, she was introduced to jazz by singing with the jazz ensemble and from recordings her choir director gave her. After graduating, she moved to Texas to attend The University of North Texas to study in the jazz program under the direction of Paris Rutherford and Rosana Eckert, and many other great professors. Julie stayed in the Dallas metroplex after finishing her Vocal Jazz Performance degree, gigging in the area to learn as much as she could from her peers and the musicians around her. In the fall of 2006, the midwest was calling, and Julie moved to Chicago, Illinois to be around the city for inspiration, and to be closer to her family. She was honored to sing the national anthem at Wrigley field in the summer of '08, and continues to work in the Chicago area. She currently teaches private lessons at Sacred Heart Schools, and is the city director of early childhood music classes with The Music Playhouse. She performs in various restaurants around the city and neighboring suburbs, and for private parties. Julie's love of music runs deep, and will continue to grow forever.
