Josh Myers

No newcomer to the scene, acoustic and electric bassist Josh Myers has been lending his unique and skilled presence to dozens of bands in New York since September 2002. He now resides in Windsor Terrace, Brooklyn, where he leads the Josh Myers Quintet and Big Words at venues such as Louis 649, Barbes, the Tea Lounge, Bar 4, the Center for Improvisational Music, and others. He has performed with John Scofield, Kenny Werner, Lenny Picket and Wayne Krantz, and he plays regularly with such notables as Gerald Cleaver and Ohad Talmor. Most recently, he was featured on cellist/beatmaker Cosmo D's latest recording with the band Sauce, and Josh Myers Quintet's debut, Walls Red.

About Walls Red, All About Jazz writer Mark F. Turner had this to say: "The fruition of Walls Red as a recording is one whose seeds were planted in experimentation, the exchange of ideas and unspoken inspiration. Josh Myers clearly incorporated all of these to create this memorable and rewarding debut." With this recording, Josh Myers shows his unique compositional style, stemming from his years of work in just about every conceivable genre; jazz, rock, pop, r&b, hip hop, bluegrass, klezmer, reggae, etc. He composes not just with harmony melody and rhythm, but with sound as well, blending acoustic and electronic timbres for a unique composite. The recording features a talented crop of young innovators; Brian Scherman on alto, Heath Walton on tenor, Jonathan Anderson on piano, Jordan Perlson on drums, and Dan Venne on sound design. "Amidst the many vibrant sounds heard in Brooklyn, New York; Walls Red lets you see through the quintet's personal lens, one that filters their own concepts like a stream of information into music that is energized and always changing."

Josh Myers: Walls Red

Read "Walls Red" reviewed by Mark F. Turner

Like many striving in this challenging and diverse music environment, Myers' playing is panoptic: dabbling in nearly a dozen projects--mainstream, experimental and even Klezmer-rock, as well as regular gigs with notables such as drummer Gerald Cleaver.
