Joseph Bartone

Joe Bartone, Boston guitarist (Sun-Ra Tribute Arkestra, Extropians) formed Thelonious Dub in August of 2007. John Von Seggern (bass) is a noted Los Angeles remix producer. Together with Sean Rainey they perform original material as well as the music of Thelonious Monk, Miles Davis interleaved with deep Reggae dub influences. Dub is the perfect counterpart to jazz improvisation. It is a spontaneous layering of lush ambient melodies and sounds over a hypnotic sensual drum and bass rhythm. Modeled after the "Modern Lounge" sound, T-Dub draws from groups like Weather Report, Bill Frisell, John Scofield, Massive Attack, Thievery Corporation and Sly Dunbar & Robbie Shakespeare. To pursue this sound, Thelonious Dub adds electric sitar, synthesizers, & effects.
