Joe Hubbard

London based bass player Joe Hubbard’s professional background is represented by a collective body of experience that spans over more than three decades as an internationally acclaimed bass guitarist, educator, author and contemporary jazz fusion recording artist.

Aside from playing with some of the top jazz musicians on the planet including Flip Nunez, Richie Cole, Jim Mullen, Dick Morrissey, Dave O’Higgins, Frank Gambale, Patches Stewart, Gary Husband, Mose Allison, George Benson, Ian Carr’s Nucleus, Dave Garabaldi (Tower of Power) Walt Fowler and Dave Weckl- Joe is also a well- known recording artist where he has written, arranged and co-produced three internationally acclaimed jazz fusion CDs.

Joe is one of the foremost bass educators in the world, having taught some of the most prestigious bass players around including Pino Palladino, Paul Turner (Jamiroquai), Mike Mondesir (Billy Cobham), Nick Beggs (Steven Wilson) and Dave Swift (Jools Holland). Aside from writing a University Accredited Bass Curriculum for a major music school in the UK, Joe has taught at many leading music schools including, The Musician’s Institute in Los Angeles, The Academy of Contemporary Music, Bass Tech, The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, Richmond Community College and Brunell University; as well as having taught master-classes in The United States, The Netherlands, Germany, Italy, Scotland, Wales and England. Joe continues to spread his passion for knowledge as a bestselling author who has penned five bass guitar books, including: Walking Bass Lines, The Sight Reading Compendium for Electric Bass, Functional Harmonic Concepts and How to Practice with Maximum Efficiency.

Joe currently resides in London (UK) where he is the architect and founder of the popular instructional online bass school: www.joehubbardbassvideos.com and is currently composing and working on a new jazz fusion CD featuring Dennis Chambers, Alex Skolnick, George Whitty, Tom Brechtlein, Bob Mintzer, Patches Stewart and Peter-John Vettese, which is due out for release in 2017. He is also a featured monthly video columnist for the No Treble online bass magazine, along with being featured regularly in Bass Guitar Magazine writing a bi-monthly column entitled Applied Improvisation.

As a seasoned veteran with thousands of gigs under his belt, Joe’s mission is to further spread the tentacles of his music – as a bass guitarist, composer, educator, author and jazz recording artist – integrating this legacy with new elements and expressing it creatively into the future!
