Ignasi Terraza
Ignasi Terraza is one of Spain's most distinguished jazz pianists with significant international recognition.
Recently invested as Doctor Honoris Causa by the Polytechnic University of Catalonia, in 2009 he was awarded first prize at the Jacksonville International Jazz Piano Competition in the United States, and boasts an extensive discography encompassing over 60 releases in Spain, France, Switzerland and Japan—half of them as leader, and ten with his trio. He has accompanied such luminaries as Frank Wess, Lou Donaldson, Benny Golson, John Faddis and Jesse Davis, and his trio has featured musicians including Bobby Durham, Jeff Hamilton, Gregory Hutchinson, Pierre Boussaguet and Ulf Wakenius. He performs regularly on European circuits and has toured throughout North and South America, as well as several Asian countries.
His style draws from the jazz tradition with influences such as Oscar Peterson and Ahmad Jamal, among others, grounded in European classical music, to develop a distinctive voice with a highly personal sound marked by virtuosity, in music characterized by the rhythmic force of swing and the sensitivity of his expression.
