Gloria Yehilevsky
Dubbed a 'visionary' by the San Diego Troubadour, Gloria Yehilevsky is a London-based composer, percussionist, producer, and researcher championing collaborative and transdisciplinary music. She co-directed and performed in "Dreamerfly, and other stories," an evening-length performance combining animation and original jazz commissioned by the Herbert Art Gallery & Museum.
Her 2018 percussion/double bass duo "Minister of Loneliness," co-created with Chinese animator Shiyi Li, was invited to exhibitions and performances in Thailand, Hong Kong, France, the UK, and the US. Her marimba/vibraphone duo "Borrowed Reality" enjoyed dual premieres in 2022 at the University of California - San Diego and Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego.
As a performer, she won the PAS Armand Zildjian award, the Italy PAS Vibraphone competition and is a Musical Merit finalist and protégé. She played with the San Diego Symphony, World Percussion Group, members of Third Coast Percussion and Bang on a Can All-Stars. Recent and upcoming appearances include The Rady Shell, Centrala Space, Flatpack Festival, MASS MoCA, and PASIC. She was invited as a guest artist to California Institute of the Arts, Royal Northern College of Music, Norwegian Academy of Music, University of Nebraska - Omaha, University of North Alabama, and others.
Her research on “Guided Improvisation” was published in Percussive Notes, where she serves as Associate Editor. She explores complexity and cognition, intergenerational trauma, and embodied sound-making. These arise from her perspective as a daughter of Ukrainian-Jewish immigrants, and personal experiences with depression and trauma.
Gloria holds an MMus from Royal Birmingham Conservatoire and an MSc in Psychology from the University of Greenwich, both with distinction. She is currently pursuing a PhD in Creative Practice (Composition) at Trinity Laban Conservatoire of Music & Dance.
