Elvis Stanic

Born in the 1963., Rijeka, Croatia, he started to play at the age of 6. After accomplishing a classical music education for the accordeon, he switched to the guitar, and was influenced by the blues, rock and jazz music. In following years he established a succesfull career as a recording musician, as well as a music producer for the major Croatian pop artists. As a full scholarship awarded Best Entering Student Talent in the 1994. he went to the Berklee College of Music, Boston, where he studied Guitar and Jazz Composition. During the Boston years, he performed with most of Boston based musicians, such as Jim Kelly, Dennis Montgomery, John Thomas, Bob Harrigan, Frank Williams and many others. After returning to Croatia, he established the fusion-based jazz ansamble, the “Elvis Stanić Group”, which has become the best jazz band in Croatia. In succeding years they released three albums with original music which won almost all the National music and discography awards. In the 2004 «Elvis Stanić Group» released The «best of» album, «Introspection». Currently the band works on the new material, expected in the winter. He performed at the Montreaux Jazz Festival at '98 and 2003. (Switzerland), and numerous Jazz festivals in the U.S., Italy, Slovenia, Serbia and Monte Negro, Bosnia and Herzegovina. Turkey, Germany, Greece and France.

He is the winner of numerous awards and recognitions: -Best Entering Student Talent (Berklee College of Music, Boston USA) -Award for Outstanding Musicianship (Berklee Clinics at Umbria Jazz, Peruggia, Italy) -National Journalist Award for the best instrumental performer (Crni mačak, Croatia 1997. and 1999.) -National music Award Porin- for the best jazz album (1997. and 1999.), for the best jazz song (1997.) and the best jazz performance (1999.) -The annual award for outstanding cultural achievements • City of Opatija (1998.) -Croatian Musicians Union Annual Award “Status” for the best instrumental performer in category of Jazz, Latin, Fusion & Ethnic Music and for the best jazz guitarist (1998., 2003.)

As a free-lance guitarist he played with all major jazz musicians in Croatia (Boško Petrović, The National Croatian Radio-Television Big Band, Neven Frangeš, Mario Mavrin, Matija Dedić, Tamara Obrovac,…), and abroad (Gilberto Gil, Django Bates, Martin Drew, Alwin Queen, Furio di Castri, Enzo Favata, Tony Osanah, Marc Abrams, George Makinto, Scott Latzky, John Thomas…)
