David Mitchell

Born in the UK and resident in Amsterdam, I am a multi-instrumentalist, film composer and educator. I perform regularly in Amsterdam and beyond on electric guitar, acoustic 6 and 12 string guitars, Uyghur tambur and sattar, and Iranian setar.

I studied jazz music in Boston MA at the Berklee College of Music, with teachers including John Thomas-Williams and Garrison Fewell. I studied Uyghur classical and folk forms with Mahmut Memet of the Xinjiang state orchestra, and Iranian classical music with Nima Janmohammadi of New England Conservatory.

I taught jazz guitar and ensembles at the Beijing Institute for Contemporary Music; I have scored films for Odessa Films and Al Jazeera, as well as advertising for some of the world's biggest brands.

I led the Beijing-based jazz/Uyghur music ensemble Panjir, and currently lead the trio Orb Weaver. I am a member of the Amsterdam artists' collective Grond.
