I was born and raised in Baltimore. At the age of nine, I began studying snare drum with a local percussionist, Robert Kennick, who was the tympanist for the Baltimore Symphony for many years. Later, at 13, I studied in the Peabody Conservatory Preparatory Department, again under Mr. Kennick. By the age of 14, I was playing in local dance bands. Throughout those years, until the age of 20, I continued studying privately. The teachers who influenced me most are Charles Memphis, also of the Peabody Conservatory and Mike Shepherd, long time friend and inspiration.
