Westchester Center for Jazz and Contemporary Music
About Me
My Jazz Story
The Westchester Center for Jazz and Contemporary Music… …was created to provide an opportunity for musicians of diverse backgrounds, abilities, and ages to develop their skills playing jazz and related forms of modern music. One of the key components of our program is that our teachers are working professionals who have been playing and performing regularly throughout their careers. Our goal is to give our students the opportunity to learn from musicians that have spent their careers not just playing their instruments but performing as well. Integrating performance and education: The teaching philosophy of the Center is based on the premise that performing and teaching are mutually beneficial. By coming off the stage into the classroom, our aim is to first inspire students, and then challenge them as musicians. Our priority is to develop musicians who play with confidence, skill, and knowledge in an environment that recognizes anything is achievable when hard work is combined with a willingness to learn. “There are two kinds of music. Good music, and the other kind.” Duke Ellington
