Van Anthoney Hall

About Me

Van-Anthoney Hall holds a PhD in Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana – Champaign, a Master of Music in voice/opera performance from Southern Methodist University, Dallas Texas and a Bachelor of Arts degree in vocal performance from North Carolina A&T State University, Greensboro North Carolina. He has performed with Utah Festival Opera, Houston Ebony Opera, Deep Ellum Opera, as well as American Singers’ Opera Project. Van’s opera roles include Bassilio (Marriage of Figaro) The Magician( The Consul) Sportin Life ( Porgy & Bess) Kaspar (Amahl and the Night Visitors) Fenton ( The Merry Wives of Windsor) Caliban (Tempest) and Monastatos ( The Magic Flute) His research is in the areas of Black Aesthetics, Aesthetic Education and Curriculum Theory. Van’s current research/music includes a recital program titled In the Words of Langston an Aesthetic Language of Social Justice.

Van is a former Arts Ambassador of Greater Baton Rouge (2001) and grant recipient from The Louisiana Division of the Arts (2001). In addition to classical music, Van performed throughout the Midwest with the Jazz trio Panache from 2005 -2007. Van also performs with Vanism; a jazz chamber ensemble that focuses on arts inquiry and music improvisation to explore aesthetic meanings of freedom and social Justice. Vanism has performed with Artist for Amnesty at Southern Methodist University-Dallas Texas as well as recital performances in Paris, Neuilly, Reims and Bordeaux, France.

Van’s 2011 Schedule included lectures and voice/piano recitals at Shaw University, St Matthias Episcopal - Ashville N.C. He will present research: Black Aesthetics’ Language of Social Justice at the National Association of African American Studies in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Black Aesthetics; A Language & Movement Affecting African Americans at the Southern Conference on African American Studies Inc –
