Jacques Kuba Seguin
About Me
Adventurous and multi-talented,
trumpeter Jacques Kuba Séguin is a
composer for groups of various formats:
Odd Lot, Litania Projekt, or quintet, as for
Migrations, his new album to be released
in 2019.
Séguin's musical repertoire is by turns
melodic, explosive, and accessible. As a
performer, he is definitely a showman, and
he is recognized as one of the most
brilliant trumpeters of his generation.
A winner of the 2012-13 Radio-Canada
Revelations prize, Séguin is more and
more present on the Quebec stage. In
2015, he was nominated for ADISQ awards
in two categories: best arranger and jazz
album of the year for L'élévation du point
de chute and, in 2016, for Litania Projekt
with the Quatuor Bozzini in the same two
categories. In 2015, he was nominated for
a Prix Opus for jazz album of the year for
L'élévation du point de chute, and for jazz
and world music concert of the year for
his 2014 Montreal International Jazz
Festival show, where Jacques presented an
expanded version of his Litania Projekt,
adding a string quartet to the ensemble.
For more than ten years, Jacques has been
regularly touring Europe, especially
Poland. In fall 2016, he undertook a 13-
concert tour of Poland, Lithuania, and
Germany to celebrate the European
release of JKS Litania Projekt avec le
Quatuor Bozzini by Slovakian jazz label
Hevhetia. This same project was later
presented in China, Quebec, and the rest
of Canada.
He plays regularly with many musicians of
the Montreal jazz scene, including
Elizabeth Shepherd, Yves Léveillé, Jazzlab,
and Philippe Côté. He is also a member of
Papagroove, and has accompanied Jean
Leloup, Ariane Moffatt, Caïman Fou,
Dobacaracol, and Pierre Lapointe, among
others. Jacques toured for two years with
the Cirque de Soleil's Delirium, performing
in 150 cities across the globe.
His discography as composer and
bandleader includes five albums, all on
the ODD SOUND label, which he founded
and runs. As well as producing his albums,
Jacques hosts Symphonie en bleu, the ICI
Musique Classique radio show that
connects classical music and jazz. Finally,
he is the artistic director of the Sainte-
Cécile instrumental music festival in
Poland.
