David Bruggink
Visual designer and artist with a keen interest in modern jazz
About Me
I discovered jazz briefly when I was young, but then returned decades later by stumbling onto an album with a cover that I liked in Périgueux, France. It was Anouar Brahem's Conte de l'Incroyable Amour, and it commenced my obsession with the ECM sound, and later the wider world of modern jazz. I fell hard for artists that sublimely embodied the atmosphere, the deep emotion and the spellbinding skill of the best jazz – Tord Gustavsen, Tomasz Stanko, Arve Henriksen, Marcin Wasilewski – and I haven't looked back!
My Jazz Story
I was first exposed to jazz as a youngster when my dad took me to see a jazz trio downtown. I'd never heard a group of people play with such blazing passion, with such an incredible intuitive connection between the three of them. I love the unique combination of boundless creativity, technical proficiency, and emotional resonance that can only be found in jazz!
