Barry Deister

The first jazz record I bought was John Coltrane "Impressions" and I have been on the jazz path ever since. Originally from Chicago, Illinois, I cut my teeth with some of the best musicians of that City. In 1989-91 after moving to Oregon on the West coast I assembled a collaborative quintet of musicians from both the East coast and West coast called “East/West Dialogue” which included New York based pianist/composer Jim McNeely as well as Chicago based musicians David Urban on trumpet, Kelly Sill on bass and Joel Spencer on drums I was blessed to have done a short West Coast tour with Bobby Hutcherson back in the 80's and also to play in a creative orchestra led by the enigmatic Anthony Braxton.
