About Me

Alan Goldberg is an Austin-based composer and pianist whose instrumental music blends progressive rock, jazz-rock fusion, and piano-centered composition.

Alan Goldberg is a composer and pianist based in Austin, Texas, whose instrumental music moves between progressive rock, jazz-rock fusion, and piano-centered composition. His catalog spans solo piano, jazz ensemble, progressive rock, and orchestral textures, with the piano remaining the central voice across his work. His recent album CreateBecome explored growth and transformation through a progressive arc incorporating jazz, rock, swing, and solo piano. In 2026, Goldberg returned to Fuel For The Fire, an album he originally released independently on vinyl in 1984. The new Fuel For The Fire – 40th Anniversary Edition preserves the original solo performances while combining them with newly recorded guitar, live drums, orchestration, synthesizers, and piano. The result is a continuation of the original work across time — a collaboration between the musician he was then and the musician he is now. Fuel For The Fire – 40th Anniversary Edition releases September 29, 2026 on vinyl and digital.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because it combines structure with freedom. The harmony can be sophisticated, the rhythm can move in unexpected ways, and improvisation allows the music to become something slightly different each time it is played. That balance between composition and discovery has influenced the way I write and play piano for many years. I was first exposed to Jazz through the Peanuts holiday specials and the music of Vince Guaraldi. I've always been able to play by ear and that was some challenging music to try to learn on the piano as a young boy. it got me hooked.
