I traditional jazz on guitar, tenor banjo, and lap steel in and around Birmingham AL. I also teach high school English, love classic movies from all eras, read my favorite stuff over and over, and love love grilled fish.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because... it is so democratic. Everyone is invited. I was first exposed to jazz...through me teacher/friend/mentor/father- figure Irvin Payne. I met [musician name]...Herb Ellis once. I took a three hour guitar lesson from him. The best show I ever attended was...any of the nine Wynton Marsalis shows I've seen. The first jazz record I bought was...Stardust by Wilkie Nelson. My advice to new listeners...- Listen to it all with an open mind. Or whatever else you have in mind.
