WHO:
HYENA Recording Artist
SKIP HELLER
WHAT:
Los Angeles-based jazz guitarist SKIP HELLER launches a U.S. tour on March 11th at Sweet Rhythm. Touring in support of his new album Fakebook to be released February 24th on HYENA, Heller has built a loyal and diverse following, garnering rave reviews for his distinctive ability to assimilate a wide range of influences from straight ahead jazz to rockabilly, exotica to old school soul. His collaborations have included those with NRBQ, Yma Sumac, Uri Caine, Dave Alvin and Todd Rundgren.
On Fakebook, Heller leads an organ jazz quartet that sparkles with the shimmer and vitality of Hammond B-3er's Jimmy McGriff, Big John Patton and Richard Groove" Holmes, yet in Heller's inimitable fashion, draws its material from artists including Prince, Raymond Scott, Lex Baxter, Eddie Harris and Bob Dylan. This rare NYC appearance by Heller is not to be missed as he's quickly becoming one of jazz's most revered and progressive young artists, while remaining steadfastly engaged in the music's evolution.
Other Heller dates include stops at Ortlieb's in Philadelphia, PA on 3/13; Satori Sound in Mobile, AL on 3/18; Zeitgeist in New Orleans on 3/20; The Mars Bar in Seattle on 3/25; Jimmy Mak's in Portland, OR on 3/26 and Jo Federigo's in Eugene, OR on 3/27. Midwest dates will be announced shortly.
