The American Jazz Museum begins this week a series of “house parties” intended to help raise funds for operations and educational programs.
Greg Carroll, executive director, said a large gala had been scrapped in place of the smaller gatherings. The 10th anniversary celebration last September lost at least $30,000 rather than raising the expected $150,000, The Star reported last year.
Carroll said that the smaller gatherings would allow board members to be more involved in the fundraising efforts.
Museum board member Ida McBeth, a local jazz and blues vocalist, and her band will provide the entertainment at the first house party.
The party will be from 6 to 9 p.m. Friday at the home of Laura and Lantz Welch in the Northland.
Tickets are $75 per person and can be purchased by calling museum staffer Karen Anderson at 816-474-8463, ext. 204, or by sending e-mail to [email protected].
Dress is casual, and the house party will be catered. Anderson said the museum hoped to have attendance of about 100.
Two more house parties are to be scheduled. The museum hopes to have a silent auction in the spring at another fundraising effort.
