Reedman Victor Goines Interviewed at AAJ

Saxophonist and clarinetist Victor Goines has been a key planet in the orbit of Wynton Marsalis for more than a decade. He played on the seminal Marsalis album Live At The Village Vanguard (Columbia, 1999) within a week of joining the band, and he's continued to appear with Marsalis and with the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra ever since. Goines recorded New Adventures (Criss Cross, 2006) in 2005.

On Friday, October 12th, New Haven's Firehouse 12 will present a two set performance by The Claudia Quintet as part of the venue's ongoing 2007 Fall Jazz Series. Led by New York-based drummer/composer John Hollenbeck, this decade- old ensemble features reed player Chris Speed, vibraphonist Matt Moran, accordionist Ted Reichman and organist Gary Versace. Hunter-Gatherers (482-1056), the new two-disc live set from Chicago's The Rempis Percussion Quartet, featuring saxophonist Dave Rempis, bassist Anton Hatwich and drummers Frank Rosaly and Tim Daisy, is now available on 482 Music. This is the band's third release and the 13th entry in label's ongoing Document Chicago series.
