Sam Trapchak's Put Together Funny - Lollipopocalypse (2010)
Source:
Something Else!

But his father persuaded him to take up bass instead with a piece of irrefutable logic: Everyone always needs a bassist. From there, young Sam was on his way, beginning a way of life that eventually landed him a full scholarship at New Jersey's William Paterson University and the opportunity ...

Mostly Other People Do the Killing - The Coimbra Concert (Clean Feed, 2011)
Source:
Music and More by Tim Niland
One of the most exciting and innovative bands on the modern jazz scene, Mostly Other People Do the Killing is a jazz ensemble consisting of Peter Evans on trumpet, Jon Irabagon on tenor and sopranino saxophones, Moppa Elliott on bass and Kevin Shea on drums. What makes the band so much fun to follow is the impish delight they take in making music, from the delightful spoof covers to wryly quoting famous jazz songs amidst their original compositions. But make ...

Something Else!
By Mark Saleski I've been reading bits and pieces of Henry Miller's The Air-Conditioned Nightmare, Miller's collection of essays about his travels around the United States. The expatriate writer had wanted to see what his homeland had become, to get to the core of it all. As with all of his work, Miller pulled no punchesthere were parts of the country that disgusted him (Boston and New York), while other places inspired. It's interesting to read his summation of where ...

How To: Give Fans Control of an Album Release
Source:
HypeBot
Say you're a band from Australia and you have a new album coming out. It's done. You've picked a release date, but it's not really set in stone. There's a tour coming up through the US in April and that seemed like the best time to release it. No point in touring unless you can put an album in people's hands. Here's the catch: you have fans all around the world and it would be unfair to make them wait ...

From the Stacks: Pico's 2011 Stacks, Volume 1

Roxy Coss' self-titled debut CD is worth checking out. By S. Victor Aaron Well, I didn't expect I'd being doing this so early. Here we are just weeks into the new year and it's already time to work off some mounting stacks of CD's that have arrived since around Christmas or so. We can't let these fall be the wayside because they're just too hard to ignore, however. It's all jazz, and all released this month, or perhaps a little ...
