The Coventry Lions Club is proud to announce that the 2012 Chester County Blues Barbecue will be held at Wyndsor Farm on June 9th. This year’s event offers the blues enthusiast an opportunity to hear both national and local blues acts in an idyllic, family oriented setting.

This year’s event is being held in conjunction with the Thorncroft Equestrian Center and will benefit both Thorncroft’s therapeutic equestrian programs and Lions Club programs to assist disadvantaged and visually impaired in the local community.

The barbecue headliner, Gary Allegretto is a highly acclaimed, internationally touring Bluesman from Los Angeles - originally born in Delaware. Blues Revue magazine calls Gary “…one of the best harp players you'll hear”. He is not only one of the hottest Blues artists in the country, with a long list of awards and accolades, but also a humanitarian who provides harmonicas and music therapy to kids with special challenges worldwide through his nonprofit organization Harmonikids.

Come ready to dance, because Gary will rock the house (pasture) 'til the cows come home... literally!

Other acts include Pennsylvania blues veterans, Midnight Shift and The Roger Girke Band. Their names are familiar to area blues fans but their reputations as extend far beyond the Keystone State. Midnight Shift“…infuses the best elements of rockabilly, rock and blues that would keep any dance floor bopping until it drops. ” ( Greg Szalony/Blues Blast Magazine). And the Roger Girke band has been a leader in the Philadelphia and Delaware blues scene since 1978 – they continue to evolve each year with a solid mix of contemporary and traditional blues.

This is the third year for the Chester County Blues Barbecue – it was an instant success at its inception in 2010 and has raised over $20,000 to fund equipment the Lions Club’s KidSight program which provides early vision testing for preschool children in Chester and Berks County.

The barbecue is held in the picturesque horse pastures of Wyndsor Farm – with the bands playing on a natural raised stage area. A wide range of food and spirits are available from local vendors and civic organizations.

In the words of the Coventry Lions club member and local blues musician, Ray Bentley , “The blues are a uniquely American genre, the foundation for almost everything you hear on the radio today - it cuts across generational boundaries…there is a certain joy to hearing it played outdoors by musicians who truly enjoy performing, we’re glad to offer our guests a chance to do that while helping out some great causes”.
