Charlie O's is celebrating nine years of presenting the best in live straight ahead jazz in August. We thank all of you - musicians and fans alike and our wonderful staff for making it all possible.

We have some very special performances with new groups, old favorites and two CD release parties.

Please make reservations for all Friday and Saturday performances.

Our Monday performances in August include the Zane Musa Quartet on the 3rd ("Phenomenal!!!" is a direct quote from Glenn Mitchell's latest review of this outstanding quartet); the Kate Reid Trio (Kate, Chris Conner, Steve Barnes) on the 3rd; the great Luther Hughes Cannonball Coltrane Project (Luther, Ed Czach, Bruce Babad, Glenn Cashman, Paul Kreibich) on the 17th; the Theo Saunders Quartet on the 24th; and the CJS Quintet (Chuck Johnson, James Smith, Kojo Ono, Keita Akutsu, Chris Colangelo) on the 31st. (The calendar indicates Red Holloway on the 7th and 8th but Red had a scheduling conflict at the last minute and unfortunately will be out of town.) Reservations are suggested for these performances.

The Sunday line-up begins with a CD party for Diane Hubka performing with Joe Bagg, Jeff D'Angelo and Ryan Doyle on the 2nd; sensational New York based vibraphonist Tyler Blanton will be here with his quartet on the 9th (Tyler, Larry Koonse, Dan Lutz, Jared Schlonig); Ron Anthony and Barry Zweig are here on the 16th with Kendall Kay and Luther Hughes; the Ron King Quartet is here on the 23rd, and Tish Oney with the Roy McCurdy Trio (Tish, Roy, John Chiodini, Chris Conner) are here on the 30th. The Wednesday line up starts with a CD Release party on the 5th for Benn Clatworthy's band - Luminescence (Benn, Pablo Calogero, Don Littleton, John Belzaguy, Jorge Carbonnell) - it's a little bit progressive jazz, Latin jazz and music you won't hear except from this group; the Jack Sheldon California Cool Quartet on the 12th and 26th, and the Tony Inzalaco Quintet (Tony, Benn Clatworthy, Nolan Shaheed, Theo Saunders, Chris Colangelo) on the 19th. Please make reservations for these performances.

The Thursday line-up features the Don Menza Quartet (Don, Tom Ranier, Chris Conner, Dick Weller) on the 6th, the Henry Franklin Quartet (the Skipper, Azar Lawrence, Theo Saunders, Fritz Wise) on the 13th, Bill Cunliffe & Friends on the 20th and the special return engagement of Ernie Watts with the Jon Mayer Trio on the 27th (Jon, Roy McCurdy, Chris Conner). Reservations needed the Ernie Watts performance on the 27th and highly recommended for the Thursday performances.

Here's a preview of some of the upcoming events in September: the long awaited return of John Allred; a birthday celebration for Jon Mayer with featured artist Pete Christlieb; the return of Abe Laboriel with Emil, Joe and Mike; and a birthday celebration for Janis Mann.

We are located at 13725 Victory Blvd. in Van Nuys (on Victory, just West of Woodman Avenue). Jo-Ann, Mike, Matt, Teesee, Naomi, Nicole and Lo Tara look forward to seeing you in August at Charlie O's.

Come to Charlie O's for the best in jazz entertainment at the “ultimate jazz bar, restaurant" (Don Heckman, LA Times). Charlie O's has been voted by Downbeat magazine every year as one of the top 100 best jazz clubs in the world since 2001! “A great intimate jazz club in the valley" said Chuck Niles in the November 2003 issue of Sunset magazine. Charlie O's is where all the musicians hang and “all the best jazz players in LA are there" said Mort Sahl. Les McCann says “Charlie O's is the best jazz club in L.A. Clint Eastwood said “it's like listening to great jazz in your living room."

Our sincere thanks to all of you all over the world for helping to make Charlie O's so successful! Thank you all for keeping Charlie O's dream alive. We hope to see you in August to help us celebrate our nine years of presenting jazz!

Best, Jo-Ann
