The Movement

The Movement has been winning the hearts and minds of alternative-reggae fans since their inception in Columbia, SC in 2003. Drawing inspiration from Sublime, 311, Slightly Stoopid and John Brown’s Body, they’ve come to be known as musical shapeshifters with a foundation of heavy drum and bass. Today the band consists of founding member, lead vocalist, and guitarist Joshua Swain, bassist Jason Schmidt, drummer Gary Jackson, and keyboardist/multi-instrumentalist Matt Goodwin. Their sixth studio album, Ways Of The World, dropped on June 7, 2019, as the highly anticipated followup to 2016’s #1 Billboard Reggae album Golden. >> https://fanlink.to/waysoftheworld

Jack DeJohnette (drums, piano, electronic percussion) Ravi Coltrane (tenor, soprano and sopranino saxophones ) Matthew Garrison (electric bass, electronics) “A trio of compatible ideals. Featuring Ravi Coltrane on saxophones and Matt Garrison on electric bass, it’s both earthy and elastic, capable of sneaking in and out of song form, disinclined to rush toward resolution.” –Nate Chinen, The New York Times There is a lot of history concentrated in Jack DeJohnette’s adventurous new trio. Fifty years ago, as a guest with ...

Controlling Your Music Via WI-Fi and Movement Without a Motion Sensor

By Eliot Van Buskirk of Evolver.fm. We are fascinated with new ways to control our tunes, because smartphones get in the way of music apps. We've already been mightily impressed by the way Leap Motion's neat little cameras can let music fans control Spotify by waving their hands around in front of their computers, and also by apps that let you remix or otherwise affect music as it is playing, using gesture controls. But nothing prepared us for the knowledge ...

Bobby Selvaggio - Grass Roots Movement (2011)

Source: Something Else!

By S. Victor Aaron For a serious post-bop performer to take a leap into Grooveland, it can often be a risky bet. Will they be able to keep their artistic integrity? Will they even care? A couple of years ago, alto saxophonist Bobby Selvaggio made his second album (his first for the Arabesque Recordings label), leading a standard quintet that featured Kenny Werner through sophisticated modern jazz compositions all written by Selvaggio himself. Modern Times (2009) as that album is ...

Christian McBride had never even written a single set of lyrics when he was tasked to compose a suite for a gospel choir in 1998. So rather than entrust himself with the words, he turned to four of the most momentous speakers of the 20th century: Civil Rights icons Rosa Parks, Muhammad Ali, Malcolm X and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. “Everything that those people said in the '60s had such weight and meaning to it," McBride says. “My job ...
