Listened to Lambert, Hendricks, & Ross literally as an infant. Parents were spinning it & many others of that period. New every change & part in my head. It was jazz straight ahead from there. Met Mr. Hendricks years ago backstage @The Blue Note & told him the story...Got my father on the horn and he & Jon spoke. Talk about coming full circle!
My 9th or 10th birthday was asked by Granny what I wanted. The music of "Peter Gun"! Let's go buy me the record! She took me to Corvette's downtown Brooklyn & found that album by The Aaron Bell Orchestra including Burrell on gui-tar. Also scored 77 Sunset Strip. Shows I watched with her mainly for the tunes. "That's all you want"?? That was enough for me. Started playin right away!
