Dan Barman
If you’re looking for Drummer, Bandleader, Educator Dan Barman, he can most likely be found performing at any of New York City’s most popular music venues. In the short time since his move from the west coast, he has become a regular fixture on the NYC music scene both as a live performer and studio musician, recording with such celebrated producers as six-time Grammy Award Winner “Commissioner” Gordon Williams (Santana, Lauryn Hill, Fugees) and Jeremy Sklarsky (Freelance Whales, Foreigner, Diane Birch). As a bandleader with some of New York City’s most talented musicians at his fingertips, he has put together ensembles for a long list of local as well as international touring musicians, including multi-award winning artist Joanie Leeds (Independent Music Awards winner, John Lennon Songwriting contest winner) and Doris Cellar of The Freelance Whales.
Barman began teaching private lessons at an early age, as well as having spent time on percussion staff with The University of Oregon. As a private instructor he maintains a teaching studio in Brooklyn and has taught drum set performance for The School of Rock (NYC). He has served as a clinician for competitive high school jazz and marching band ensembles, and has designed classroom-style curriculums for high schools across the country and award winning educational programs such as The Kehillah Partnership of Northern New Jersey.
As a Division 1 Drum Corps International World Champion (DCI), Barman has served as a visual staff member on two North American DCI tours, designing daily routines and curriculums to teach competitive members proper posture, balance, and movement. Building upon this experience, Barman has created a unique, ergonomic approach to the drum set and recently filed for patent on an original design for an ergonomic drum seat.
