Fabrizio Brusca
Guitarist/composer, was born on the 11th of February 1977 in Palermo, Sicily.
Fabrizio Brusca received his training at the Academy of Fine Arts (2001). In 2004, he studied jazz guitar at the Prins Claus Conservatory in Groningen, Netherlands, with Conrad Herwig, Ralph Peterson Jr., Brian Lynch, David Berkman, Steve Davis, Michael Moore, Deena De Rose, Don Braden, and Anton Goudsmit. Between the Netherlands and Italy, he participated in workshops with Lee Konitz, Joe Lovano, Salvatore Bonafede, Ralph Towner, Maria Pia De Vito, David Gilmore, and Kurt Rosenwinkel.
In 2007, he graduated from the Prins Claus Conservatory and received a scholarship from the prestigious Andrea Elkenbracht Foundation (Groningen) to spend three months studying in New York. There, he studied with guitarists Ben Monder, Gilad Hekselman, Lage Lund, Jonathan Kreisberg, Adam Rogers, and attended seminars with Gene Bertoncini and saxophonist Steve Coleman.
His recording career began in 2011 with the band Manziluna, of which he is the co-leader ("Manziluna," 2011, Fitzcarraldo Rec and "L’Intrigo," 2014, Cantina Rec.), and continued in subsequent years with other recordings: "Parentes" (2014) and "Occupational Hazard" (2020) from the MusiConspiracy project with Polish drummer Jacek Kochan, "Replace" (2015) by Emanuele Primavera, and "Moon Is Here" (2012) by Claudio Giambruno.
He has also participated in various jazz festivals in Italy and abroad. He has played with, among others: Salvatore Bonafede, Orazio Maugeri, Stefano D’Anna, Mauro Schiavone, Gabriele Mirabassi, Alessandro Presti, Marcello Pellitteri, Tarek Yamani, and Kaja Draksler. In 2019, he released his first album as a soloist, composer, and arranger: "Fabrizio Brusca Quartet - Lunar" (Comar 23, Rec.).
Currently (as of the academic year 2022-23), he is a Professor of Jazz Guitar at the Conservatory of Music "A. Scontrino" in Trapani.
