Andrea Glockner

Andrea Glockner (2001) is an Italo-French bass trumpet player, trombonist, and flutist based in Amsterdam. Born in Bordeaux into a musical family, he developed an early passion for jazz inspired by Miles Davis and Louis Armstrong. After studying trumpet at the Bordeaux Conservatory, the discovery of Bob Brookmeyer and the valve trombone led him to focus on low brass instruments in jazz. He continued his studies at Siena Jazz (Italy) and later earned a Master’s degree in Jazz Performance from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam.

In 2023, Andrea founded the quartet “Across the Lines”, whose debut album, featuring Joseph Bowie, was released by Dodicilune in 2025. The band has performed at numerous festivals and venues across France and Italy.

In 2025, Andrea joined Joseph Bowie’s legendary band “Defunkt”, further expanding his activity on the international jazz scene. Alongside his work in small ensembles, Andrea is an active big band musician, performing with orchestras in France, Italy, and the Netherlands.

In 2026, he founded his own big band and composed “The Spiritual Suite”, a five-movement work combining straight-ahead jazz, free improvisation, and large ensemble writing.

His musical language draws from the full spectrum of jazz, blues, free improvisation, and the energy of rock and funk. Deeply influenced by Joseph Bowie’s emphasis on groove, he seeks to expand the role of low brass instruments—particularly the bass trumpet and valve trombone—as expressive voices in contemporary jazz, while also exploring the flute as a new dimension of his artistic practice.
