Julie Holtzman

Julie Holtzman, the brilliant Canadian pianist of Polish origin, has received international acclaim. Born in Montreal, she took First Prizes in piano, chamber music and solfege at The Provincial Conservatory. A recipient of a Post-graduate diploma from The Juilliard School as a scholarship student of MME. ROSINA LHEVINNE, she also coached with Dorothy Taubman and Ernst Oster (Schenker analysis) and CLAUS ADAM and WILLIAM KROLL (chamber music). She is a distinguished chamber music artist and has been a dedicated teacher since the ripe age of fourteen. Besides the standard repertoire, she is celebrated for her pioneering affinity for bringing to life rare, unduly neglected and oft- unpublished works of the Masters covering the entire music spectrum.

Growing up in Montreal as a teenager Julie led a double life. In winter she was a "long (red) haired" pianist being pruned for Juilliard. Her summer alter-ego was a torch singer named JULIE HEATHERS. It was during these years that she developed a deep feeling for the blues and a passion for jazz.

In addition to the standard song repertory of Gershwin, Arlen, Porter, Rodgers and Hart, Berlin, Carmichael, Kern, Ellington, etc, she loves to uncover obscure gems such as Duke's "Creole Blues," "All too Soon," "The Blues," "I Like the Sunrise" and "Morning Glory," Billie Holiday's "Somebody's On My Mind" and "Please Don't Do It In Here" ; Mary Lou Williams's "The Blues" and "My Momma Pinned a Rose on Me"; McPartland's "Twilight World" and "In The Days Of Our Love".
