Alison Rycroft

Growing up on a farm in Burnley, Alison's first foray into jazz was as a singer in her University's Big Band in Dundee in which she performed for two years. Her love of jazz was sealed by the year she spent in New York, using her spare time to listen, and sometimes perform, in legendary jazz clubs. Since returning to the UK and moving to London she has perfomed at venues including the Bull's Head, Hideaway Jazz Club, Oliver's Jazz Bar, the Commander Bar and the Pheasantry. She has also been featured on BBC Radio Scotland. Her influences include: Carmen Mcrae, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald, Oscar Peterson, Stevie Wonder, Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Louis Armstrong, Liane Carroll to name but a few. Alison is a fledgling lyricist and songwriter with new material on the way. You can also hear her on Urban Jazz Radio every Tuesday night from 9pm - 10pm where she presents The Jazz Connection.
