Zeki Caglar Namli
With is own expression ;His student years still continue...
About Me
Zeki Caglar Namli is one of the famous musicians who is living in Istanbul/TURKEY. He plays baglama.First as a self-taught,then at music school, he dedicated years to improving not only his technical skills, but also musical capacity of his instrument. He focused on playing technique as well as the physical aspects of the instrument in his attempts. His argument was as simple: The baglama deserves to be an instrument beyond its traditional boundaries. He carried out several compositions that crowned his technical inventions when he was a student at the State Conservatory. He designed a secondary sounbox mounted onto upper end of its neck that enables the player use both sides of strings when pressing fingers on board. Three-course stringed instrument thus excels through the potential of producing six simultaneous parts rather than three. Using kopuz, a historical name of the baglama, he patented his invention as double kopuz.( http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=a9rALeVcBAI&feature=related) He also made similar experiments on some other string instruments like guitar.( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iQzp9UPMNjo&feature=related ) Both his experience and passionate search for the new have led him to experimental music in 2000's. His first album La Lune / Village, released in 2006, embodies his aim to challenge the traditional limits of the baglama. He has participated in various projects both in Turkey and overseas and the duet album of Dominique Di Piazza who worked particularly with John Mclaughlin for long years, and Zeki Caglar Namli is published in Turkey on January 2011.( http://www.youtube.com/watch? v=mis4wl7MZBo)
