French & English jazz vocalist combines the romance of the french with Latin rhythms and jazz harmonies.

About Me

Tina Hartt is a singer, composer and musician native to Montreal. She has enjoyed a diverse singing career spanning all over Canada: rock bands and church choirs in Montreal, Big Bands and jazz ensembles in Toronto, and acting/singing/dancing in Nova Scotia and PEI. In 2014 she moved out west to Calgary, and decided to focus on jazz. Going back to her french roots, she has dusted off some old french chansons (ie: Brel, Aznavour and Piaf) and given them new life by combining the romance of the french with Latin rhythms and jazz harmonies. These elements are the foundation for her original material, and give a freshness to her interpretations of jazz standards. Tina’s instrumental choices of violin, clarinet, accordion and congas along with piano, bass and drums create a unique sound that compliment both the French paroles or English lyrics and her arrangements make excellent use of these instrumental colours, especially in her original compositions. Tina’s voice has been described as “rich and expressive” with a “dynamic vocal range”, she is undeniably an “engaging entertainer”, and is recognized as “a striking song stylist and improviser” by her peers. Her unique repertoire along with her sincere delivery have resulted in her “captivating and engaging” audiences everywhere she goes. Since arriving in Calgary, Tina has performed at the Jack Singer Hall, The Grand Theatre, Grey Eagle Casino and Ironwood Bar & Grill. Tina has also been featured in the Virtual Jazz YYC International Jazz Days Festival, The Works Art & Design Festival, the ProArts@noon Concert Series, the Cliff Bungalow Jazz Series, the Wellspring Concert Series and La Cité Francophone Patio Concert Series. Tina has just released her latest album ABSENCE OF YOU.

My Jazz Story

I love jazz because I love to play with a song when I am singing it. Be it melodically or rhythmically. When one member of the group starts exploring an idea and the rest of the members react to it, or use it as a jumping board for their own musical journey then the music only gets better from there. Sometimes a song starts in one place and ends up in another, which can also be very exciting. When everyone is listening an responding, songs really can come alive: it is one of my most favourite experiences in the world and I consider myself blessed when I am a part of it!
