My Jazz Story
I love jazz because...of its non-conformist, un-commercial attitude. Spontaneous, freedom within a tightly organized
framework-gloriously creative!
I was first exposed to jazz...in high school.
I met [musician name]...some of the greats before their passing-Woody Herman, Mel Lewis, Buddy Rich, Stan Kenton, Mel
Torme, many more. In recent years-Bill Holman, Doc Severinsen, Bobby Sanabria, many others.
The best show I ever attended was...the Don Ellis orchestra in 1971.
The first jazz record I bought was...Rich live at Ceasar's Palace.
My advice to new listeners...listen to as many people as you can. The music is incredibly varied. Have fun!
