About Me

In 76 et 77, I travel to Rio; when my first album “Amazone” comes out in 87, Paris-Match nicknames me “The most Brazilian of the Belgians” and adds: “...one of the best Belgian productions of the eighties...”; in 96, the CD is reedited with new compositions. At Le Carrefour Mondial de la Guitare Fort de France,in 84, Jaco Pastorius, Leo Brouwer, and Abel Carlevaro, decern me a Prize of composition for solo guitar: “Tango d'hiver”. Since everytime, the afro cuban music, salsa, and hispanic musics have interested me; I live two years in New York, keep touch with the places and the masters of cuban music: espescially Jerry and Andy Gonsalez, and go thoroughly into jazz at the Brooklin University (LIU). Back in 89, I take on the best French percussionnist in cuban music: Fred Savinien “El pulpo”, an exceptionnal musician: Mimi Verderame on drums, a personality: the carioca singer Denise Blue, the fresh mauritian bassist: Alain Joseph, and finally Stefan Bracaval, brillant flutist. Sometimes, Pernell Saturnino (Curacao), percussionnist w/ David Sanchez, Paquito, Dizzy Gillespie U.N.O., joins them. On stage, the name of the band is Stphane Martini-Papagaio. The album TEMPO LATINO (#TRA005) BY BRUMUSE comes out in Belgium in april 2003, including personal's compositions and two Jobim's songs. The concept of the album is the meeting of the main latin traditions: Brazil, Cuba, but also Spain (”El lobo”), and Trinidad (”Calypso”) with Jazz.
