About Me
A saxophonist born on 14 November 1995 in Romford, Essex, Sam Neal was introduced to music from a very early age. At the age of 7, Sam started learning the guitar and clarinet; this then progressed onto the piano and then the saxophone which became his principle study. Sam auditioned for the Royal Academy of Music Junior Jazz and was lucky enough to be offered a place, which he immediately accepted. Due to the high commitment needed for the Royal Academy, Sam dropped his other instruments to focus on solely the saxophone and piano; an essential instrument for any musician. Sam’s main genre of music is jazz, but he also plays in a classical quintet giving him extensive knowledge of both areas. Sam plays in the EYJO (Essex Youth Jazz Orchestra) as well as various ensembles at the Royal Academy of Music. He runs a school jazz band which allows him to develop his arranging and ensemble leading skills and also pushes him forward as a musician. Sam wishes to continue his study of music up to degree level and then would like to go on to performing professional or teaching at higher education level.
